NAME THAT INSTRUMENT workshopAIM: To learn how a range of musical instruments work, to recognise their sound, and to experience playing an instrument. |
|||||||||||
An introduction to brass, woodwind and strings, with instruments played live and on recordings, and the unique opportunity to actually play some of the instruments. The day begins with all the group together, watching a demonstration of the scientific principles by which sound is produced. A range of different instruments are then played ?live? to demonstrate the different sounds they can make, together with recordings and pictures of professional players performing. For the workshops, classes are divided into 3 groups, for a carousel of activities. Two groups carry out listening and paper based activities provided by 'Join in Music' but supervised by school staff, and the group working with Emma Sykes have the memorable experience of touching and playing a wide range of instruments. Emma explains how to produce a note from each instrument, and every child will have the exciting opportunity to produce a note from the instrument of their choice. In the afternoon, we work together as a group to plan and present a concert, starting 30 minutes before the end of school. |

FlexibilityIf you have groups with specific requirements (e.g. Gifted and Talented, Special Needs, longer projects or Holiday Clubs), please contact Emma to discuss these. All of the workshops listed are given in outline only, so that they can be adapted as much as necessary for the audience and time available. Alternative ideas can also be incorporated. |

CRB checks and supervision of childrenEmma Sykes has a current CRB certificate, which can be seen on the day. However, she would not expect to be on her own with children at any point, as adults from each school are needed to supervise their children at all times. Emma needs to ensure that instruments and equipment are used safely and appropriately. |
