From 2007

Workshops at schools in Huddersfield, Bradford and Halifax, including 'The Music of World War Two' at Whetly Primary, and 'Music Since 1948' at Marsden Junior.

Christmas 2007

'Victorian Christmas' happened at Moorlands Primary, Huddersfield, and St Joseph's Catholic Primary in Keighley. The children loved making the Chtistmas cards!

June 4th to 7th 2007

  • A week-long series of workshops including EVERY PUPIL at Norton Free CE Primary School in Sheffield.
  • World War Two, Tune In, Play that Rhythm and Blow Your Trumpet workshops were delivered with much enjoyment and learning by all. Three concerts were well received by parents.

Mr Barron, the Headteacher, said:

  • Extremely pleased and highly delighted with the quality of teaching and learning that has been produced in the daily workshops.
  • Join in Music has produced wonderful results in terms of children's performance, and has enthused the non-specialist musicians on the staff to seek further professional development in this curriculum area.
  • In terms of 'peer coaching' for teachers, Join in Music has shown the way for the wider school community.

Year 6 - WORLD WAR TWO

  • I enjoyed the fact that the songs were cheerful but we were still learning at the same time.
  • I enjoyed singing the songs and waving the Union Jack at the end with 'We'll Meet Again'.
  • I enjoyed the videos because they gave me a lot of information.
  • I learnt how people loved music and how hard it was for them.

Year 5 - PLAY THAT RHYTHM

  • I enjoyed it because we used musical notes in different ways.
  • The best part of the day was...definitely the excitement of the performance.
  • I enjoyed working with Mrs Sykes, and I enjoyed hitting the drum.
  • I enjoyed the part when we performed and learnt how to read music. I learned a lot. It was brilliant.
  • (Staff comment)The workshop matched my expectations and more!
  • (Parent comment)I enjoyed seeing the class totally concentrating on reading the music, counting the beats and enjoying playing the drums. All the class looked like they really enjoyed it and I did too!
  • (Parent comment)My child was thrilled that she learned how to make her own tunes.

Year 4 - PLAY THAT TUNE

  • We learned the notes of the glockenspiel and how to hold the beaters correctly.
  • I was excited because I would get to show everyone what I learnt.
  • It would have been even better if my parents came to the concert.
  • (Staff comment)I thoroughly enjoyed the day and was surprised to find that I was able to play a tune.
  • (Parent comment)My child learned how to play 5 tunes on the glockenspiel and managed to play in time with everyone else.

Year 3 - BLOW YOUR TRUMPET

I liked playing the tuba best because it was big and loud.

I enjoyed playing the trumpet. I liked listening to it when the other people were playing it.

I enjoyed playing the trombone, because you could make low notes and I think low notes sound good.

I have done a lot of new things that I've never done before and I've never seen a tuba.

I learned about the different parts of the instruments. The buttons are called valves, the thing you blow through is called a mouthpiece.

F/S, Year 1, Year 2 - PLAY THAT RHYTHM

Some good ideas were passed on to teachers which we can use in class.

Emma was able to adapt and alter her programme to fit in with the school's needs.

The session was perfect - just the right length of time with lots of variety and everyone got a chance to play an instrument.
