Format: 1 or 2 day workshop (writing objectives if 2-day workshop)
Max Number of Pupils: Up to 95 per day
Aims
To experience, sing and perform music from World War 2, understanding how important
it was to the everyday lives of the people of Britain.
First day
Using DVD clips and CD recordings, we look at the experiences of the people living through this dramatic period of British history. This is to highlight how much they would have needed the inspirational and cheering effects of music. Children love learning to sing some of the popular songs from the time, and we add actions to make the experience even more enjoyable.
They also complete an art project, designing a poster based on the ‘Dig For Victory’ campaign, with small prizes provided for the best efforts.
Second day
We learn another couple of songs, then spend time preparing for the concert at the end of the day. The children are able to introduce the songs themselves, to their parents and the rest of the school, who love to see how much the children have learned over the two days.
‘I enjoyed singing the songs and waving the Union Jack flags at the end with‘We’ll meet again’.
