Aimed At: KS2
Supports QCA Units: History 11, 12, Music 8, 15, 20
Format: 1 or 2 day workshop
Max Number of Pupils: Up to 95 per day
Aim
To experience the music and culture of the Victorian music halls, learning and performing songs from the time.
Morning session
The origins and atmosphere of the Music Halls are illustrated using a PowerPoint presentation and DVD clips. The children enjoy hearing and singing the songs, and they start to learn the lyrics and actions. We also learn something of the famous artistes who originally performed
the songs.
Afternoon session
The group is split into two, with each group learning a Music Hall song, tune and accompaniment on glockenspiels (full class set supplied FREE for the workshop). They also complete an art or creative activity, with all resources and instructions supplied on the day.
Second day
We watch further DVD clips, and rehearse the songs ready for the performance which will take place
at the end of the day. The children are also introduced to a collection
of comic routines and jokes, and
they love trying out some of these for themselves!
In the concert for parents and the rest of the school, we recreate the fun atmosphere of the Music Halls with a mixture of songs, comic routines and instrumental performance.
'I enjoy transporting children through time through interactive sound and experience.'
